You are a Masterpiece! Don’t forget it.
When I was little, my mom used to tell me, “You are one of a kind. God broke the mold when he made you and you are beautiful.” As I have talked about in other blog posts, I did not always feel beautiful growing up. I have Red hair, freckles and I thought I was flat chested and no guys would ever like me. I struggled with self-esteem and settled for several losers who were not very nice to me and did not deserve my affection.
So many people, especially women, struggle to love themselves and see themselves as worthy of love and beautiful. We are often so critical of ourselves, our skin, our hair, clothes, car, how much money we make, on and on... Our society has taught us to place a value of these on our self worth and what "class" of society we are in. People judge each other and themselves on the basis of very superficial things, like money or fancy, expensive things.
What I have learned (the hard way) is that, as Eleanor Roosevelt so wisely said, "no one can make me feel inferior without my consent." It is up to me to value myself above material things I own or how I look. All exterior things are fleeting and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
My suggestion is to stop watching shows or reading magazines (or social media posts) that make you compare your beauty with a celebrity or Model who are airbrushed head to toe! Their Beauty is only skin deep and it won't last either. Often many people who are very beautiful on the outside, do not view themselves as beautiful and they might not be very nice people to be around either.
When you were created, you were Unique and Special. There's no one in the world just like you! And even though you might have acne, or frizzy hair or a beat up car, NO ONE can tell you you are not special and have something to offer the world, because you do! Every person has a Purpose and a gift to share.
I am always so inspired by Oprah Winfrey, for example. She has been very open about her personal struggles in her past and her struggles with body image and weight loss. But I believe most people would say she is incredibly beautiful both inside and out! She has made a tremendous mark on our world because she is vulnerable, honest and open to changing her own thoughts about who she is and working to feel beautiful and loved and then share that love with the world. What an inspiration and a testament that no matter what you face, you can conquer it and find your own inner and inherent worth that no one can take away from you.
So I salute you as you strive to rise above whatever struggles you are facing. Trust me when I say I have had more than my share, even very recently losing my father to suicide very suddenly. We all have challenges and struggles. What is important is how we rise above the storms and remember who we truly are- a Masterpiece made by God that nothing can diminish.
Happy Mother’s Day, sweet ladies. 💗😘 Rest In Peace, Mom. I miss you all the time.
